Officers responding to a shooting on the 100 block of Wakeman Avenue found the victim with a gunshot wound to his right leg and applied a tourniquet around 7 p.m. June 11, Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said.
The boy was stable and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Luis A. Aponte, 34, of Belleville and the Newark 17-year-old were identified as suspects, O'Hara said.
The Fugitive Apprehension Team and Shooting Response Team were able to apprehend Aponte in the early morning hours Wednesday, while the other suspect was taken into custody at a different address in Newark, authorities said.
The suspects face charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, conspiracy, receiving stolen property, and endangerment.
